QUALIFIED TRUST SERVICES

BUSINESS CHALLENGE

The use of new technologies for acquiring, transmitting, and collecting information brings a vast amount of data and associated risks faced by organizations. Regulation (EU) No. 910/2014, also known as the eIDAS Regulation (electronic Identification Authentication and Signature), provides a legal basis in the internal market for electronic identification in member states.

The purpose of the eIDAS Regulation is to strengthen the trust of individuals, legal entities, and public authorities in the digital world and electronic transactions in the internal market, ensuring a common foundation for legally secure electronic cooperation.

SOLUTION

The eIDAS Regulation stipulates the collaboration of certification bodies accredited following Regulation (EU) No. 765/2008, in determining the compliance of Trust Service Providers (TSPs) and their trust services. The compliance assessment is based on specific evaluations conducted by accredited certification bodies at TSPs.

An eIDAS certificate is issued upon compliance with the requirements of Regulation (EU) No. 910/2014 and the requirements expressed in specific European reference standards. Bureau Veritas Ltd. is accredited by the Slovenian Accreditation Body SA (Slovenska Akreditacija) to verify the compliance of providers of qualified trust services and the qualified trust services they provide with the requirements of the eIDAS Regulation under number CP 003. Bureau Veritas is also accredited for assessing trust service components (signature components, video identification, registration services, etc.). The company is listed on the European list of CABs.

European reference standards are continuously developed and supplemented within ETSI, thereby enabling further development of trust services.

WHAT ADVANTAGES DOES THE eIDAS CERTIFICATE BRING?

The goal of the eIDAS Regulation at the European level is to facilitate the use of electronic identification means in individual member states for natural and/or legal persons. To this end, the eIDAS Regulation aims to simplify the use of electronic authentication paths provided by TSPs for verifying the identity of legal entities and citizens, carried out by public authorities, through the principle of mutual recognition and mutual acceptance of electronic identification systems.

The eIDAS certificate, in addition to meeting legal requirements, allows TSPs to demonstrate compliance with European-level standards requirements that harmonize different national regulations of individual member states.
